The Name of Jesus is Salvation

In popular religion salvation has come to be regarded as a "thing" or "transaction" rather than what it really is: a person. In Scripture, Salvation is Jesus. It is His name. Jesus is Yeshua in Hebrew, the word for salvation.

Mat 1:21 (NIV) "She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus [Yeshua, Hebrew for 'salvation'], because he will save his people from their sins."

Luke 2:30 (NIV) [Simeon, holding baby Jesus:] "For my eyes have seen your salvation..."

Anticipation of the Incarnation of God's Salvation

1Pet 1:10 (NIV) Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care,

There are many prophecies of Christ/Messiah being named "Salvation/Jesus" in the Old Testament.

Exod. 15:2 (NIV) The LORD is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation [Yeshua/Jesus]. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father's God, and I will exalt him.

Ps. 118:14 (NIV) The LORD is my strength and my song; he has become my [Yeshua/Jesus] salvation.

Ps. 119:41 (NIV) May your unfailing love come to me, O LORD, your salvation [Yeshua/Jesus] according to your promise.

Isa. 12:2 (NIV) Surely God is my salvation [Yeshua/Jesus]; I will trust and not be afraid. The LORD, the LORD, is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation [Yeshua/Jesus]."

If we have Jesus in any measure at all, then we have salvation. Salvation is a person, not merely a concept. We either have Him or we don't.

Acts 4:12 (NIV) "Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved."

Col 1:27 (NIV) To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

To be saved, then, means Christ is "in us", that we have "received Him." If we have Him in any measure, then we have "salvation" (for He is Salvation), and we are "saved".

Eph 1:13 (NIV) And you were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation [Jesus].

1Pet 2:2 (NIV) Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk so that you may grow up in your salvation.

There is only one salvation--even Jesus Christ, our Lord. Thus, ideas that you can be saved by Catechism or Communion or "going down an aisle" or even saying a prayer fall short of the reality. To have salvation is to have Christ in us, or not.

Acts 4:12 (NRS) "There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among mortals by which we must be saved."

We initially receive this salvation, and then grow up in it. For salvation, again, is not a "thing" so much as a Person: Jesus Christ.

Col 2:6 (NIV) So then, just as you received Christ Jesus [The Anointed One of Salvation] as Lord, continue to live in him.

Ga 4:19 (Wey) [I (Paul) am] undergoing the pains of childbirth until Christ is fully formed within you.

Phil 2:12c-13 (NIV) ...Continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.

2Co 13:5 (NIV) Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you--unless, of course, you fail the test?

Heb 6:9 (NIV) Even though we speak like this, dear friends, we are confident of better things in your case--things that accompany salvation.
