Extra Stuff on God's Wrath

Additional Texts

Heb 12:25-29 (Phi) So be sure you do not refuse to hear the voice that speaks. For if they who refused to hear those who spoke to them on earth did not escape, how little chance of escape is there for us if we refuse to hear the One who speaks from Heaven. Then his voice shook the earth, but now he promises: "Yet once more will I make to tremble not the earth only, but also the heaven." This means that in this final "shaking" all that is impermanent will be removed, that is, everything that is merely "made", and only the unshakable things will remain. Since then, we have been given a kingdom that is "unshakable", let us serve God with thankfulness in the ways which please him, but always with reverence and holy fear. For it is perfectly true that our God is a burning fire.

Micah 7:4,7,18-19 (NIV) ...The day of your watchman has come, the day God visits you. Now is the time of their confusion... But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me... Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever, but delight to show mercy. You will again have compassion on us; you will tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea.

Exe 33:19 (NIV) ..."I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion."

Isa 66:22,24 (NIV) As the new heavens and the new earth that I make will endure before me," declares the Lord, "So will your name and descendants endure... And they will go out and look upon the dead bodies of those who rebelled against me; their worm will not die, nor will their fire be quenched, and they will become loathsome to all mankind."

Jer 25:33 (NIV) At that time those slain by the Lord will be everywhere--from one end of the earth to the other. They will not be mourned or gathered up or buried, but will be like refuse lying on the ground.

Luke 12:49 (NIV) "I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled!"

Rev 22:12 (NAS) "Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with me, to render to every man according to what he has done."

Rom 5:9 (NIV) Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through him!

1 Cor 3:13 (Phi) ...The day will show it plainly enough, for the day will arise in a blaze of fire, and that fire will prove the quality of each man's work.

1 Cor 3:14-15 (NIV) If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward. If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames.

1 Thes 1:10 (RSV) ...wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.

Heb 6:1-2 (NIV) Therefore let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, instructions about baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment.

James 5:19-20 (Phi) My brothers, if any of you should wander away from the truth and another should turn him back on to the right path, then the latter may be sure that in turning a man back from his wandering course he has rescued a soul from death, and in so doing will "cover a multitude of sins".

2 Thes 2:9-10 (Jer) But when the Rebel comes, Satan will set to work: there will be all kinds of miracles and a deceptive show of signs and wonders, and everything evil that can deceive those who are bound for destruction because they would not grasp the love of the truth which could have saved them.

  • It is also nice to see that I am not the only one out there who trembles at the Word of God. My interest in this particular subject has not necessarily been to teach others, to be a clearer teacher, or even to be correct (all potentially good motives), but rather a selfish reason. I desire to internalize God's word in areas that my flesh bristles, lest I be snared by unrepentant thoughts in the hour of darkness.

I do believe and teach that the wrath of God is about to be revealed, and it will start with his own household. But since I react the wrong way when this actually happens--even in very small ways--to me or others, I have not yet learned my own lesson. So by meditating on the extent of God's wrath in the past, I hope to apprehend His nature to the point that I can react rightly in the future by His Name and grace.

God's Wrath And What You Do

Rev 22:15-16 (NIV) "Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood. I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches."

Ps 90:11 (NIV) Who knows the power of your anger? For your wrath is as great as the fear that is due you.
